Where do I find a list of acting coaches?
AACE – Association of Acting Coaches and Educators
AACE began by bringing together concerned industry partners, knowledgeable and dedicated educators, grassroots community groups, and students. A working group was formed with representatives from ACTRA Toronto, CAEA, the CDC, the EIC, TAMAC, GYB, KAS, AGC, schools/studios, and educators. Together, they created an industry Code of Conduct, an AACE Member Guide, and an application process. The creation of AACE helps provide oversight and promote best practices for students and parents. It also fosters a much-needed community where coaches and educators can learn, share, and grow together.

Where can I find a list of upcoming workshops?
Where do I find a list of audition tape studios or demo tape studios?
You can find audition tape and demo reel studios in a few key places:
-
eBOSS Canada Directory
Browse the Training & Services section of the eBOSS Canada Directory to find reputable audition taping and demo reel service providers across Canada. -
Vancouver Actor’s Guide
For services in British Columbia, check out the Vancouver Actor’s Guide, which includes listings for coaches and studios offering taping and editing services. -
Recommendations from Industry Professionals
Ask your agent, coach, or fellow performers for referrals to trusted taping studios in your area. -
Social Media and Facebook Groups
Local acting communities often post reviews and recommendations for self-tape or demo reel studios. Search for acting-related groups in your city (e.g., “Toronto Actors” or “Vancouver Self-Tape Services”).
Tip:
When choosing a studio, look for one with industry-standard lighting, sound, and editing quality, as well as staff familiar with current casting expectations.
How long should my demo tape be?
An actor’s demo reel (also called a demo tape) should ideally be 1 to 2 minutes long, with a maximum of 3 minutes.
Key guidelines:
-
Keep it short and impactful: Casting directors often watch only the first 30–60 seconds, so lead with your strongest material.
-
Show range: Include 2–3 contrasting scenes that highlight different aspects of your acting (comedy vs. drama, lead vs. supporting, etc.).
-
Focus on your performance: Make sure you’re the focus of each scene. Avoid clips where you’re barely visible or overshadowed.
-
Quality over quantity: Only include professional or well-produced footage — avoid blurry, poorly lit, or hard-to-hear scenes.
